Welcome to the Street Academy!
We use education, culture, and sports to expose the hidden talents of the less fortunate children living on the streets of Accra, Ghana.
Our students participate in sports, culture, music, drama, and basic education through a non-formal system.
The Sports & Cultural Academy For Street Children (The Street Academy) was established in November, 1986 by Ataa Lartey, a sports enthusiast and social worker, as a youth program to tap talents in sports and cultural activities.
Lartey soon realized that many of the children in the area were living in the streets, having to work as porters in markets or sweep floors before being able to eat.
In 1993, The Street Academy, officially registered as an NGO to provide educational assistance as well as sports, music, and cultural training to guide the children in the discovery of their talents.
For nearly 30 years now, The Street Academy has been providing assistance for deprived children from poor, urban parts of Accra.
